Pande put down the phone and nodded to the other employees. Her eyes turned to Gray and she smiled, "Gray, good news, James is coming home today. He'll be here from a plane ride in three hours or so." She laughed as his jaw dropped and his eyes brightened. "I have a plan for you Gray, he's not going to be happy or his usual self," Pande's blue eyes grew serious. "and it involves that old horse."
--
Pande and Gray stood by the fence as they looked at the gray speckled horse who lay in the middle of the lush pasture. His eyes were closed and his breathing so slow it took all of Gray's eyesight to catch the horse inhaling and exhaling. "So this is Oddessy's Glory." Gray's voice betrayed nothing as he looked at the animal. The horse was a sight for sore eyes, his sunken hide and loose skin betrayed his age. Gray's arms clenched as his eyes travelled down towards the gelding's front left leg - there was an ugly marring on the limb and it obviously looked healed after a terrible break. "The vet who preformed the surgery said he'd never seen another horse recover so quickly," Pande looked at Gray. "This horse is everything to James. Everything. I want you to show Glory to him when he arrives. Tell him nothing."
--
James's taxi pulled up, the black haired man got out slowly, his eyes still haunted. He looked terrible, hair in a tangle, and eyes sunken with sorrow. He looked up at Gray, briefly noting the broken arm before looking back at the ground. "James," Gray said softly, his heart breaking. He walked up to his love and directed him to the back. "I have something for you." James said nothing, just stumbled in the direction that Gray guided him. Gray bit back a tear as he directed Gray around the back of the house towards a small pasture. James kept his eyes on the ground until a sudden noise made him stop dead. His eyes wide and he slowly panned up in disbelief. The old gelding had heard the two coming around the building and had stood on his own, he had at first merely seemed interested in the men and then it hit the old horse. James. His head had tossed up and his steps lifted, he trotted as fast as he could to the fence. His lips peeling back and his shout of joy rang out again. James stared at the gelding, then at Gray, and then back. "Glory?" James voice shook, his body then started to shake with fear and disbelief. He stumbled towards the horse who cried out again, then broke into a shambling run, his muscles screaming with the effort of running the sort distance. He tumbled over the fence and tackled the horse. The gelding bent his head, burring his graying nose into the man's unruly black hair. "Oh Glory, Glory, Glory... Glory..." James's voice was cracking with sobs as he grabbed and burried his hands in the horses's mane. Tears streamed down his cheeks, he started to make half sobbing, half laughter noises. His arm trailed down to the horse's leg. He winced at the obvious bump where the bone had mended itself. "Oh Glory...."
Gray looked on, knowing that James was coming back to him. Coming back to them all. He wiped a tear from his eye and smiled, he was content to wait. The gelding and his love had so much catching up to do.
Jameeeesss~ Oh gosh this had me tearing up!
